Greetings in His matchless Name!
As you know Shirley was in the Nursing Home for Christmas and New Years. She was completely "gone" mentally and physically. I had enrolled her as a permanent patient to the long care unit. I had begun the process of applying for Medicaid. Her last week there she began to (finally) cooperate with the physical and occupational therapists. Before that she either couldn't or wouldn't. She began to improve until she was able to transfer from her wheelchair to her bed, etc. At that point I decided I would take a chance and bring her home, against the advice of the staff there.. I was soooooo lonely and didn't know what to do with myself and was spending looooong hours with her and then I would leave and come home to an empty house. It was awful.
Long story short...she began to improve slightly, although I had to be with her 24/7. She wanted to go to church whenever she was up to it and I would take her fearing how things would go. (I still teach an adult S.S. class there and get to preach occasionally.) Things went a little shaky at first. Then she began to get more stength and a little by little she began to try to use her walker again. At first she was very weak, but daily she gained strength with me walking in back of her of course. After 2 1/2 months she is now walking from the family room in our home to her bedroom and bathroom - on her own. (I am still a little nervous about that - and I have to be at home with her all the time.) But she is mentally alert now and although she still has strong pain with her poly-myalgia about twice a day, she is doing much better with the pain meds as well.
The doctors have no answer for her comeback, but we do...YOUR prayers for her and me! Please pray that she will continue to show improvement daily, and I will have the strength to continue to be able to help her. Incredibly she has NOT fallen in several weeks. She has also improved mentally so that she is not confused and does not get out of bed without my help, even during the night when she has to use the rest room. She calls me, I wake up and go in to her and help her out of bed, etc. Praise the Lord for answered prayer!!!!
Sincerely in the Savior,
