Dear Praying Friends,
Greetings in His matchless Name!
Time marches on! In just a couple of days we will be voting for President of the U.S. again. The outcome could very well be a new beginning for America or the end of the America we have all grown up with. If God’s longsuffering has reached an end judgment will ensue. If He finds enough dedicated, faithful servants we may get an extension on His mercy and grace. We can pray and vote, but He will decide the outcome.
While writing this newsletter the phone rang and a young man out of my ministry at Faith Baptist in Fairless Hills, PA was on the line with the good news that he is leaving his assistant pastoral ministry and will become the senior pastor of a church in Palm Desert, CA. His name is Cliff Reedman and he has been a good friend of our ministry and will no doubt do a good job in his new ministry. Please pray for him and his wife and two children as they go to this small work and that He will help them build it for His glory. It is exciting to hear about how God is leading them.
Shirley continues to have daily pain and balance problems along with some memory loss, but she continues to travel with me to churches where we try to be used of God to be a blessing to the pastor and people. We have been to Easton, PA twice in the last couple of weeks as our good friend Pastor Art Gilmore was in the hospital for another surgery with more complications. (He calls me his “assistant pastor“.) Pray he will soon be well and back in the pulpit. We have also just completed a 4 day Revival Meeting for Pastor Danny Vanhoose in Penndel, PA very close to our home. We believe the folks there were stirred and blessed and responded well to each invitation.
Since our last newsletter we were invited to again go to Valley Baptist Church in Coatesville, PA where the Pastor is Dr. Sal Yannizzi. We did a full day of meetings with “Heaven on Earth” as the theme. They honored us with a large love gift for me to purchase a suit and for Shirley to purchase a dress. The folks there are a blessing and an encouragement to us as they assure us of their constant prayer support. We also did a “Heaven on Earth” Sunday for Pastor Steve Janke in Garfield, NJ just across from NYC. He has become a great friend and even went fishing with me and my two sons-in-law Jerry Lefevers and Steve Roy last week.
We have been keeping quite busy and will be doing a three week (Sundays) Revival for Pastor Anthony Garris and his new church in the Camden city area, beginning next week.
Our dubios “friend” Sandy (the hurricane) paid us a two day visit and left us without electricity for several days, but our home church (Calvary Bible Baptist in Willingboro, NJ) provided us with a generator for two days so we could get showers and heat. (Pastor Aaron McCullough has a servants heart and has helped us with snow removal in the winter as well.) We lost about $100.00 worth of food in our refrigerator and freezer, but comparitively speaking our loss was small. The section next to where we live was hit hard with many trees down, houses damaged, etc. The seashore and NYC were severely damaged and will be a long time recovering. Ever notice how these women cause such havoc?! Sandy, Irene, Katrina and Rita?! J
FLASH! I have been invited to become a part-time asst., mentor and whatever - to another church and pastor in NJ. The pastor there is contemplating getting into a new building and has asked me to help with ideas, etc. I am praying about this and what it will entail before I make a final decision. This is a fledging church but it has great potential. They really need a permanent location before they can grow. They have been meeting in a hotel for a couple of years. The pastor’s name is brother Lou Guarneri. (My first pastor’s name right after I got saved was Guarnere and maybe I will end my sojourn on earth and my ministry with a man with a name very close to that?! How strange is that?) It sounds like both an opportunity and a challenge. (I am 78 years old!) Please pray with me about this potential move.
NEWS! My grandaughter Stephanie Lefevers, a graduate of Pensacola Christian College, just got engaged to a fine young man, Andrew Sims, who is a member of her church, Harbor Baptist in Hainesport, NJ, where the pastor is Dennis Higgins. Stephanie is a great help to my wife and I and often drops by to see what we might need. She shops for my wife (not a job I relish), and runs errands for us as well.
My three children, Dan, Dawn and Crystal and their spouses make sure we have occasional meals. We get to try new food and are deeply appreciative of what they supply. (I do NOT cook! And I don’t want to learn! I do the housework and yardwork, and I don’t want to add cooking to my reprotoire.)
Please pray for Senior Pastor Charles Clark, Jr. of Solid Rock Baptist Church who had a stroke and recent carotid artery surgery and for Pastor Steve Hays of Eastern Shore Bible Baptist Church who is battling Myasthenia Gravis - a debilitating disease. He is receiving chemotherapy and infusions now and is having a hard time breathing. Not an easy thing for a preacher. His vision has improved some, but this breathing problem is very difficult for him and he has to stop in the middle of sermons to catch his breath. He says that his people are very understanding, but it is not easy.
My former assistant pastor, and missionary, Alan Barclay and his wife Kim and family are struggling with her cancer and the treatments. She continues to teach at Solid Rock’s Christian school, and serve in the ministry there, but is going through a very difficult time.
So many of our “old friends” are on our daily personal prayer list. I am sending along a suggested prayer list plan sheet to help you have a more structured prayer life. I hope you will look it over and consider using it. I did something similar, but more detailed, when I was pastor and several commented how it helped them.
Continue to pray that our calendar will stay full of meetings and that we will stay busy for the Lord till He comes or till we go.
Well, this is getting to be longer than I planned, so I will sign off. Remember, “when these thing begin to come to pass, look up, for your redemption draweth nigh.” “Let not your heart be troubled.”
