Just Think... Dr. Paul Fedena on Heaven!
JUST THINK...
The song I wanted someone to sing at my wife's memorial service, but couldn't find anyone to do so, has these words in the chorus.
But JUST THINK... of stepping on shore-And finding it Heaven!
Of touching a hand-And finding it God's!
Of breathing new air-And finding it celestial!
Of waking up in glory-And finding it home!
JUST THINK of being FINALLY HOME! And that is the name of the song.
The tragedy is that most believers know so little about that final home where they are planning to spend eternity.
When I ask the average congregation just where Heaven is, they usually say "up" or "in the north" - and of course they are right, but specifically they usually are at a loss as to where in space that is located. They have no specifics. Jesus promised He would provide mansions in Heaven, but few believers seem to know any details about where those mansions are.
Let's get specific.
First, where is Jesus now? (Space to think.) Well, we know He is with the Father in His "house". (Jn. 14: 2) Where exactly is that? We know the Lord is on His throne and Jesus is seated next to Him. With the description we have in the book of Revelation we know that His throne is in the New Jerusalem and one day, after the 1000 year reign of Christ on earth, the New Jerusalem will " come down from God out of Heaven" (Rev. 21:2) and the tabernacle (dwelling place) of God will be with men. (Rev. 21:3) How about having God as your neighbor forever?!
The word "home" is usually a pleasant thought. Our home will be with our Savior. Does that mean that we will always see Him? Perhaps and perhaps not, but maybe His presence (like now with His indwelling Holy Spirit) we will sense His constant presence with us wherever in the New Heavens and New Earth we may be at any given time ("time" is an irrelevant word in eternity, I realize).
Many believers have the idea that Heaven may be a boring, looooong, never ending church worship service. Likely NOT! Is God boring? Was Jesus boring while on earth? Is walking on water boring? How about instantly travelling from the New Earth to the New Jerusalem (on or hovering above earth), or instantly going to outer space and back again into the New Heavens, as Jesus was able to do after His resurrection? Or what about being able to transport from one physical place to another without going through the door as He did? Boring? I think not. Did Jesus conduct one loooong 3 year church service while on earth the first time? No! He healed the sick, raised the dead, opened blind eyes and deaf ears, cast out demons, etc. Nothing boring in His earth life.
What exactly will we do for eternity? Beyond those 1000 years? Well if there will be nations over which some of us may rule during the Millennium, why won't we continue to do so after the 1000 years? He will be King of Kings and Lord of Lords and we will be His eternal servants. Perhaps we will be kings over which He is THE KING or lords over which He is THE LORD!
Serving an omniscient Creator/Savior will be anything but boring! Think of the complexity of His original creation of the entire universe. Now think of the new universe that He will create. Mind boggling! And, as He originally planned with man living forever, we will have access to the entire new creation. Those stars, planets, suns, moons and galaxies were not originally placed into space just so we could look up and "oooh" and "aaah". Man would soon have outgrown tiny planet earth if he had not sinned. Soon, as the ages rolled on, earth would have been overpopulated. We would have had to move off earth and inhabit the other unfallen worlds. (Maybe that's one reason man is so interested in travelling into space now.)
Believers will soon be taking a trip into outer space. We will set up headquarters in our mansions in the New Jerusalem. But we will have access to the New Heavens and the New Earth along with our Savior. How exciting is that?! I am packed up and anxious to move to my permanent home. Won't you come with me? Jesus invites you to this amazing journey into the future.
