Dear Praying Friends,
Greetings in His matchless Name!
There is a slight chill in the air today reminding us that fall (and winter!) are not that far away. Our summer has flown by and we have been VERY busy. In the last several weeks we held a two Sunday prophecy meeting with Pastor Anthony Garris and his good people where we saw several saved and some good decisions among God’s people. The church has temporarily merged with another church while they await the finished construction on their new building. The folks from both churches treated us well and were a blessing. Brother Garris has a great vision for Camden, NJ – one of the most difficult fields in the US.
Next, we spent a few days in Cape May, NJ passing out tracts each night in the walking mall there and the boardwalk in Wildwood. We did that with the help of our long-time friends, Herb and Marge Brail from Chicago. Brother Brail does VBS all summer with Gospel Illusions and travels with two rabbits and a dove. We took one ofthe bunnies with us each night and a large supply of “This Was Your Life” Chick tracts and the bunny was like a magnet as literally hundreds (sometimes 20 or more at a time) would huddle around us to pet the “boardwalk bunny”. We passed out hundreds of tracts (1 per family). The tracts were supplied byPastor Jeff McLeod of the Rio Grande Bible Baptist Church and carried the church logo and times of services on the back. Please pray they will produce fruit.
Thenext week we spent 3 great days at Solid Rock’s annual Northeast Vision Summit meetings. The preaching was great and the fellowship was super, along with the hotel accommodations and food. I had the opportunity to teach one of the men’s sessions again this year. Approved Workmen was the assigned theme and I used it to reinforce our stand on the King James AV1611 Bible. I had the opportunity to place in each man’shand a copy of a course of study I previously taught at the Solid Rock Schoolof the Scriptures on the subject of Hermeneutics entitled “Rightly DividingGod’s Word.”
Upon arrival at Solid Rock we received VIP treatment in helping us get Shirley’s scooter out of the car, helping her get into the church and even help with parking. We were also escorted to front row seats. Then to our surprise, at the beginning of the service, where brother David Gibbs was preaching, I was called to the platform by Brother Charlie and awarded a “Worthy Workman Award” plaque, along with an envelope with a certificate for a 3 night stay at The Inn at Leola Village in Lancaster,PA. – a Bed and Breakfast. Shirley also received a dozen of the largest and most beautiful red roses we have ever seen.
The following week Shirley and I spent three days at the First Baptist Church of Easton, PA where Pastor Arthur Gilmore has served for many years, for their annual tent revival. I preached Sun. –Tues. under the tent along with missionary (to India) William Jeffcoat. On Tuesday night we witnessed an Iranian manget saved along with a good response from believers at each invitation. Praise the Lord! As always the church folks there were gracious and friendly reflecting Pastor & Mrs. Gilmore’s spirit. And, as usual, we feasted on good food eachday. I often refer to this church as the“eating-est church on the east coast!”
This past Sunday I preached in all the services at the Harbor Baptist Church on the subject of Prophecy. In Sunday School Idid an overview of prophecy entitled “WhyProphecy?” In the AM service I preached on Ezekiel 37 & 38 re: the battle of Gog and Magog entitled “Persia in Prophecy” or “Iran in the Spotlight”. One teen young man received Christ at the invitation. That afternoon we enjoyed a wonderful and delicious, home-cooked (!) meal at Pastor & Mrs. Higgins home, along with my daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Jerry, and two of the Higgins sons, Sean and Dennis, Jr. and their families. Good fellowship and blessed friendship. I preached again Sunday evening on the subject of “Translation or Tribulation”(Rapture or Rupture?) with another good response to the invitation. Then after the service Pastor Higgins announced that they would be having a “belated Birthday party” for my 80th birthday. They had honored me in the AM service with a plaque for years of faithful service as well. They showered me with 80 $1 dollar bills taped together and a huge bag of all my favorite candy! (People keep reminding me of how old I am! No need, I feel it every day!)
PastorHiggins has graciously invited me to return to East Gate Baptist College on Tuesday nights to again teach for the fall semester, but after prayer, I had to turn him down. Last semester was a bit much with all the preparation I had to do for the Manuscript Evidence course I taught there, along with my other responsibilities at home taking care of the house and Shirley, and being on the road. (I keep telling my wife “I’m too old for this!” No one seems to be listening!)
I am teaching every Wed. night in our home church, verse-by-verse through the book of Revelation through the gracious and generous spirit of our pastor. I try to go soul-winning on Sat. morning whenever possible with our church. Our pastor, Louis Guarneri, is very soul conscious and leads our church to be as well. Please pray that we soon will no longer need to meet in the hotel conference room in Princeton, NJ for our church services and will be in our newly purchased building in Lawrenceville around Thanksgiving. The (re)construction on that existing building will begin soon.
Please pray for Faith Baptist Church in Fairless Hills. Their pastor has resigned and they are currently looking to replace him. Theyhave a good man serving the church as interim pastor, brother David Smith from California. I have heard nothing but good reports about him and his ministry there. I met him very briefly at the Northeast Vision Summit. The church seems to be doing well and our prayer is that they may get the man of God’s choosing as soon as possible.
I have only been able to go fishing once this summer due to boat problems with my son-in-law’s boat and our schedule. That was just last week and we had a banner day with many bluefish, some Spanish mackerel and a few bonita. It was abeautiful day on the ocean, but I was wiped out by the time I cleaned fish forover an hour. (I think I may even be too old for fishing! Now that’s old!)
Please don’t forget to pray for us whenever the Lord brings us to your mind. Your prayers are what keep us going. Shirley’s health continues to decline a bit and I have always been able to do two stairs at a time and walk pretty fast,but I too am slowing down due to right knee pain. The golden years are turning into the rusty years, I guess. I plan to continue to teach and preach as the Lord opens doors and I have physical strength to do so,and Shirley is able to continue to travel.
We hope you are having a great summer and that the Lord is continuing to use you for His glory! Keep looking UP! It can’t be much longer. We will look for you here, there or in-the-air!
