Dear Praying Friends,
Greetings in His matchless Name!
“Parting is such sweet sorrow…” Our hearts are very sorrowful as I write these words. We have prayerfully decided to stop all meetings that are more than ½ hour from our home. This has been the most difficult decision I have ever had to make regarding my preaching ministry over the last 58 years. But I guess it is time. Shirley is now confined to a wheelchair and is having problems with confusion and severe pain. She falls constantly. I had a very difficult time getting her up this afternoon. She had fallen on our porch. I have to do everything for her. The doctors don’t seem to have any answers for her. She is having speech, occupational and physical therapy to try to get her up and moving again. I cannot leave her alone for more than ½ hour. This really ties me down. So far we have not had to miss any church services.
I have had cataract surgery and it didn’t go well so I have been blind in that eye for more than a week. I had to have corrective surgery and there is some hope that I will regain my eyesight in a few weeks. As you can imagine this issue makes it very hard for me to read or use the computer. I continue to try. (Please forgive any spelling or grammatical mistakes in this letter.) My overall health seems pretty good, but I cannot drive until and unless I regain my sight.
On a positive note I teach each Sunday in an adult S.S. class and am presently preaching every Sunday night (with one eye closed), thanks to the generosity of my pastor, Louis Guarneri. He had to pick us up and take us home for services this past Lord’s Day. Friends and family (and my pastor) have been taking me for doctor’s appointments, grocery store, bank, etc. (I do ride Shirley’s scooter to Wal Mart for groceries or sandwiches on occasion.
Our kids have been great through all of this and are supplying meals for us on a regular basis. One less headache for me since I don’t cook.
I think of the Apostle Paul’s words to the Ephesian church leaders in Acts 20 as he said goodbye to them. “And now, behold, I know that ye all among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.” V.25
“Brethren, pray for us…” Please.
