“IN THE BEGINNING…”

TEXT:  Genesis 1:1
 
THESIS:  To set forth the distortions and impossibility of evolution vs. the fact of creation.
 
INTRO.:  A.  The evolutionists formula for the origin of the universe states: “Nobody times nothing equals everything!”    There is no Creator, no purpose, no design – everything simply came about from a total void.  They speak of the “Big Bang” which teaches that everything in the universe came into being from a dot smaller than the period at the end of the sentence which is our text! 
 
                 B.  But our text teaches that time (“In the beginning”), energy (“God”), action (“created”), space (“the heaven”) and all matter (“the earth”) came into being because of a supernatural being.  Of course this is our bias – belief in God’s Word, vs. their bias – belief in an assumption which cannot be proven and is definitely therefore NOT scientific.
 
ILLUS.:  True science investigates all the evidence.  One scientist, more honest than most stated in the Scientific American  magazine:  “The only alternative to organic evolution is special creation, and that is unthinkable.”  In other words he refuses to examine biblical evidence!  Also true science demands that which is observable and that which is reproducible.  Science cannot observe or reproduce events of the past!
 
                Both evolution and creation are belief systems – not science!  Both deal then with a religion.  You must choose which religion or belief system you will embrace.
 
I.   FOUNDATIONAL BELIEFS DETERMINE BASIC MORALITY:
 
NOTE:  Someone may ask why take up church services to teach on this subject?  The answer is that what you believe about where you came from and where you are going determine your lifestyle, your relationship with others and your core convictions about who you are, and if there really is a God, heaven and hell.
 
               A.  Evolution is Degrading to Humanity:
 
ILLUS.:  As Theron Babcock’s song “I’M NO KIN TO THE MONKEY”* says “…it’s such a disgrace to the monkey, disgrace to the human race too.” 
 
                 Ingrid Newkirk, PETA’S founder says:  “There is no rational basis for saying that a human being has special rights…A rat is a pig is a dog is a boy.”   She told a Washington Post reporter that the atrocities of Nazi Germany pale by comparison to the killing of animals for food:  “Six million Jews died in concentration camps, but six billion broiler chickens will die this year in slaughterhouses.”  In the view of the animal rights activists (evolutionists) we are nothing more than protoplasm waiting to become manure.
 
             B.  Evolution is Hostile to Reason: 
 
                 1.  The concept of spontaneous generation is ludicrous.
 
ILLUS.:  But listen to one Nobel laureate, Harvard professor George Wald, who acknowledged the utter absurdity of this concept.  Pondering the vast array of factors both real and hypothetical that would have to arise spontaneously all at once in order for inanimate matter to evolve into even the most primitive one-celled form of life, he wrote, “One has only to contemplate the magnitude of this task to concede that the spontaneous generation of a living organism is impossible.”  The he added, “Yet here we are- as a result, I believe, of spontaneous generation.”  How?  He answered:  “Time is in fact the hero of the plot…Given so much time (two billion years), the ‘impossible’ becomes possible, the possible probable, and the probable virtually certain.  One has only to wait;  time itself performs the miracles.”  (Nothing times nobody equals everything.)
 
                 2.  The missing links are still missing!
 
ILLUS.:  Where are all the transitional forms of animals becoming another species or different kinds of creatures?  The much touted Archeoptryx (reptile-bird) is really a bird after all. 
 
                National Geographic magazine had on its cover in 1999 a photo of a fossil which was half reptile and half bird;  they called it the archaeoraptor, and it had the tail of a dinosaur and the forelimbs of a bird, proving that feathered dinosaurs were ancestors of the first bird.  But it was a fake.  Someone had glued a dinosaur tail to a primitive bird.  Why?  MONEY and to prove evolution!
 
                    a.  The first missing link is the link between the living and non living.  (rocks to insects)
                    b.  The next missing link is between the one-celled and multi-celled organism. (There are two-celled organisms!)
                    c.  The next missing link is between invertebrates and vertebrates.  (Jellyfish to fish.)
                    d.  The next missing link is between reptiles and birds or mammals.  (lizards to parrots, monkeys)
                    e.  The next missing link is between primates and man.

NOTE:  This may seem simplistic, but science has yet to prove any real links! 
 
               C.  Evolution is Against Scripture:
 
                        1.  The term Christian-evolutionist or what is called a “theistic evolutionist”  is similar unbelieving believer, or a Christian prostitute;  an oxymoron.
                        2.  If Scripture is true then evolution is false; either God created as the Bible says, or the “Big Bang” or some other event in the distant past is responsible for everything in the universe.
                        3.  The similarities in vertebrates argue strongly for a common Designer, more than a common ancestor. 

ILLUS.:  Jonathan Wells, Discovery Institute, Seattle, Wash., Ph.D in geology and physics w/a minor in biology stated:  “My conclusion is that  the case of Darwinian evolution is bankrupt.  The evidence for Darwinism is not only grossly inadequate, it’s systematically distorted.  I’m convinced that sometime in the not-too-distant future – I don’t know, maybe 20 or 30 years from now – people will look back in amazement and say, ‘How could anyone have believed this?  Darwinism is merely materialistic philoso-phy masquerading as science, and people are recognizing it for what it is.”
 
II.  SCRIPTURE AND TRUE SCIENCE ARE COMPATIBLE:
 
               A.  The Definition of Science: 
 
                        1.   A systematic body of knowledge; the study of the physical world  Encarta World English Dictionary
                        2.  The “scientific method” is a quest for knowledge and study of facts based on accumulating all the available information of a given subject.
 
ILLUS.:  Any real study of the physical world would, of necessity, include a study of the Scriptures which purport to be an accurate historical, social, geographical and even scientific record of events on planet earth.  Any “scientist” who discounts the Bible as a possible source of information bearing on his study of our universe is studying without all the available information.
 
               B.  The Inclusion of Scripture:
 
                    1.  When the Scriptures and the quest for knowledge are combined, new information becomes available to the Scientist.
                    2.  In fact, without the Scriptures, if there is a God Who has revealed Himself and His creative activity, there can be no true science.
 
                      a.  Both the information and energy for the creative process is found in the Bible.
                      b.  The biblical account of creation demands only thousands, not millions of years to explain earth.
 
ILLUS.:  The dating methods used by scientists are biased and produce disastrous results.  Living penguins are dated at thousands of years!   Rocks sent to different labs are assigned vastly different dates.  The creation, like a wind up clock, was started with energy already in place.  Thus the decay rate has not been consistent (a presumption of evolutionists and their dating methods).  If creation is correct, then trees created on day one, would have had the appearance of age, with rings in their cross sections.  Rocks and all matter would have had a high rate of radiation which rapidly decayed.  The presumption of evolutionists is that “all things continue as they were from  the beginning…”  2 Pet. 3:4
 
2 Peter 3:3-4   Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,   And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
 
                     c.  Add to the creation account the fact of Noah’s flood and you can explain not only the apparent age of the earth, but also the extinction of many animals, the formation of fossil fuels, etc., etc.
 
NOTE:   Approximate time line from creation to the flood till today.
 
Great barrier reef mostly destroyed during WWII & has been studied for 20 years. Science calculated reef is 4300 years old!
 
Niagra falls:  textbooks say “9900 yrs.” Rocks break off 4.7ft./yr = 9900 yrs.  If earth is millions or billions of years old, why hasn’t the falls retreated back to Lake Erie?!  (Noah’s flood immediately created the falls, looks like 9900 yrs., but only about 4400 yrs.
 
Ocean salt water:  oceans gaining salt @ rate of 3.6% per yr. If millions of years old, why not solid salt?!
 
Stalactites: science dates them at 250 million years @ 1000 yrs. per inch.  There is a 50 inch long stalactite under the Lincoln memorial.  A bat died in a cave and landed on a stalactite several years ago, now that stalactite is several inches longer over the bats body!?  That’s where we get the term “that old bat.”  J
 
Grand Canyon:  science dates it millions and millions of years old.  The question is was it a little bit of water over lots of time, or lots of water over a little bit of time?  (Noah’s flood!) 
 
Mt. St. Helens:  Its eruption several years ago produced strata scientists would have concluded took millions of years, in just a few hours!!
 
CONCL.:  Was it a “Big Bang” or a “Big God”?!  “…IN THE BEGINNING”?  Are you merely a bit of protoplasm waiting to become manure, or a never dying soul, waiting for your eternal destiny.  The Bible says:  “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after that, the judgment.”  Heb. 9:27
 
If evolution is right then we just die like a dog and rot in the ground.  If the Bible is right we must face the Creator one day after physical death and experience either eternal life or eternal death.  Which will YOU choose?
