DETHRONING THE KING! Or
BIBLE STEALERS
TEXT: Luke 4:4
THESIS: A. Compare our text verse with these versions:
Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. KJB
Luke 4:4 “It is written, A man shall not live on bread alone.” NASB
Luke 4:4 “It is written: Man does not live on bread alone.” NIV
It is obvious that someone is attempting to throw off the authority and credibility of the King James Bible! The new “versions” continue to proliferate. Has someone convinced them that they must try to DETHRONE THE KING before they have any chance to succeed with their money-making revisions, versions and perversions of God’s holy, inspired and preserved Word and words?
Ecclesiastes 8:4 Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?
B. Often when a king was to be replaced by a coup, he would be killed so the usurper would have free reign. In other words you have to DETHRONE the KING to replace the King! It was often a brutal and bloody power play.
I. THE PURITY OF GOD’S WORD: “…by every word of God”
A. God is Pure, So His Words Must Be Pure:
Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. KJB
1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. KJB
1 Peter 1:23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. NIV (similar in NASV)
1. The Word of God is incorruptible, not just imperishable.
2. The Word of God is incorruptible; thus, once corruption enters the text it is no longer God’s Word.
2 Corinthians 2:17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. KJB
3. God warns about corrupting His Word which is pure seed.
Deuteronomy 22:9 Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with divers seeds: lest the fruit of thy seed which thou hast sown, and the fruit of thy vineyard, be defiled. KJB
ILLUS.: Throughout the Bible Satan tried to corrupt and defile the seed in Israel to DETHRONE THE KING OF KINGS, the Lord Jesus Christ. He had enticed the Israelites to intermarry with unbelievers of other nations in direct disobedience to God’s command to His people. Jesus is the Living Word (Seed) of God, the Bible is the written Word (Seed) of God. Now Satan’s failed attempt has shifted to the written Word.
Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. KJB
4. Seed is the origin of life; corrupt seed produces corrupt plants which cannot impart life.
ILLUS.: The Antichrist is the corrupt seed who will attempt to finally usurp the Savior’s position on earth in a last ditch effort to DETHRONE THE KING!
II. THE PROMISE OF GOD’S WORD:
A. This Entire Verse is a Promise:
1. It is made by none other than our Savior.
2. It is a promise we can claim and underscores the concept of the preservation of Scripture.
3. This promise is reiterated in Matthew 4:4, with an additional statement.
Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. KJB
III. THE PRESERVATION OF GOD’S WORD:
A. Without Preservation, Inspiration is Meaningless:
1. What good is the Word and words of God we do not have?
a. If, as some say, God’s Word is only perfect in heaven, it does us no good.
b. If, as some say, God’s Word is full of mistakes, it does us no good, since we are unable to find exactly where
those mistakes are, and God’s promises of preservation are a lie.
Psalms 12:6-7 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. KJB
Psalms 12:6-7 The words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times. 7 O’ LORD, you will keep us safe and protect us from such people forever. NIV
c. If, as some say, God’s Word and words are only inerrant in the “originals” or auto graphs, we have no
perfect or trustworthy Bible in our language today.
ILLUS.: The little Greek or Hebrew I know run delicatessens down the street! J God knew that in our time the world would have a trade language pretty much known world-wide and America has dominated and influenced world culture with an English Bible. It came as no surprise to God that England, then America would be the great Bible lighthouse in the world. In fact the great Missionary Period in modern history started with the King James Bible. This is not to say that English is the only language that has God’s Word & words. One of the great movements among missionaries has been to translate the Bible faithfully into many tongues. If anyone has failed, it hasn’t been God! His promises are 100% true.
IV. THE PRONOUNCEMENT OF GOD’S WORD (JESUS): (text)
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. KJB
A. In Order for Man to Have Spiritual Life, He Must Have the Living Word.
B. In Order for Man to Have the Living Word, He Must Hear the Written Word.
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. KJB
1. With eternal destiny at stake we cannot allow anyone to tamper with, replace, steal or DETHRONE THE KING (JAMES BIBLE)!
2. The Bible predicted that there would be “Bible Stealers.”
Jeremiah 23:30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, that steal my words every one from his neighbour. KJB
Jer. 23:30 “Therefore,” declares the LORD, “I am against the prophets who steal from one another words supposedly from me.” NIV
NOTE: Does it seem logical to you that the Lord would be rebuking prophets for stealing words that were not really His at all? The King of the Books states that the prophets were stealing “My words” not “words supposedly from me.” “I trow not!”
CONCL.: Someone is trying to “steal (God’s) words” from us. They are trying to DETHRONE THE KING of the Books. God wrote only one Bible and He has promised to preserve it for all generations, including ours. The question is simple: Do you have a copy? Where can we find one? Is there still an inerrant Bible available today, FOR ME?
God the Father promised to preserve it.
God the Son promised to protect it.
God the Holy Spirit promised I could have it.
MY CREED:
I believe the King James Bible is the inspired, inerrant, infallible, indestructible and preserved Word & words of the Living God.
Sincerely in The Savior,
Pastor (Emeritus) Paul C. Fedena
